health & safety

Vaccinations

• Whilst no vaccinations are mandatory to visit Kenya or Tanzania, you are advised to consult your doctor for information and advice at least 6 weeks before you travel
• Malarial prophylaxis is essential when travelling within East Africa and should be continued after your return. Long-sleeved tops, trousers and insect repellent should be worn in the evening

Being Safe in the City and on the Coast

Like all big cities, Nairobi and Mombasa have their share of crime and you should avoid making yourself a target by taking the following common-sense precautions:

• Don't carry valuables or large amounts of money in public places
• Don't walk in the streets or on the beach after dark
• Don't leave valuables in your hotel room or vehicle, even for a short time
• Don't wear jewellery that could be snatched
• Beware of conmen
• Ask for identification of anyone who poses as an official
• If you want to tour the city and its sights, ask Reception to order a taxi, as venturing out alone could be dangerous
